Why does the blower on my heat pump work every other day?
Q. When I turn the setting to cool, the blower will only work about every other day. The outside unit works every time, but the blower does not seem to work but every other day. The outside unit will occasionally get some ice on it as well.
Asked by Dan J - Fri Jun 22 18:08:50 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The blower motor is going out, or the capacitor has failed. Contact a reputable service company and have it repaired. The ice forms on your outdoor unit, as the indoor unit is not absorbing the heat from the home. Do not run your unit if the indoor blower is not running, you will overwork your compressor, and a compressor change out is much more expensive than a blower motor. Keep Kool

What is the difference between a single stage snow blower and a two stage snow blower?
Q. I am buying a snow blower and need to know the difference between a single stage blower and a two stage snow blower.
Asked by joey g - Sat Sep 5 21:14:24 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. A two stage snow blower has large gathering tines in front (the first stage) and a smaller, faster exhaust tine inside (second stage) to throw the snow out the chute. A single stage is just a toy if you ever have more than 2" of wet snow.

What is a blower motor resistor/how can you test/tell if it is no good ?
Q. My 1990 Chevy Cheyenne/Silverado plow truck blower motor turns on all by it self full blast/high when I hit the key to start. What does a blower motor resistor do what is it's funcition how does it effect the blower motor. What does this blow motor resistor even look like and where is it located on the vehicle/truck. Is this blower motor resistor wired-in or does it have a plug.

How should I point a leaf blower to propel a hovercraft?
Q. I have built a hovercraft for the science fair. I am using a leaf blower to get lift and another one to propel and steer it. I am wondering how I should position the leaf blower on the back of the hovercraft. Should it be level, to the sky, or towards the ground for the best speed. You can also suggest other ways that i could propel and steer the hovercraft.
Asked by stjdarylthomas - Thu Feb 21 12:37:50 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. you should place it on the back , but you will have to create pipes and vents at least one at each corner to create lift you will also have to make the pipes in the front and back different widths to help create a better force of air where needed,

Why did GM put the blower motor resistor in line wiht the ventilation flow path for the air conditioning?
Q. This is probably why speeds 1 and 2 burn out, because the blower resistor overheats when the fan is on slow speed maybe? Why didn't they allow for heat to escape from the resistor that produces heat? I checked for the mouse nest, somewhat anyway. Dont feel one with the blower motor out feeling inside. What should be the resistance of the circuit? How would I locate a restriction in the line. The evaporator and heat exchanger are right there. Should I be running a vacuum hose down from the outside to suck out anything that might be in the line? I am wondering whether maybe the flowpath doesn't allow for enough air to pass by on slower speeds? because there is enough blockage from the heat exchanger and the evaporator to stop it. GM… [cont.]
Asked by skahhh - Tue Sep 25 21:32:45 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. To cool the resistor itself. If you were to remove the resistor from any source of cooling, the resistor would quickly burn out. This resistor is prone to failure because of water leaking into the blower area and finding its way onto the board. It is a poor design from the get go.

What is the best snow blower for a 100ft plus straight driveway?
Q. I'm buying a snow blower for my dad for one of his Christmas gifts. What would be the best one?
Asked by Jeff M - Mon Dec 17 21:56:18 2007 - - 7 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Agreed on something around 6hp for a minimum on engine power but also consider going for a 2-stage model instead of a single-stage model. You'll be glad you did. You'll want it to last for quite a few years so when you see how steep some of the price tags get, just divide that number by 10 & figure that's what it'll cost per-year over 10 years. Not so bad when you think of it that way. If you really want all-out dependability & longevity with very little chance on breakdown, hence very minimum maintenance repair & cost, go for the Honda. Right now they'll seem major expensive but when you're out there in frigid 10deg weather with 2' of snow, you're gonna be real happy that it starts within the first 2 pulls.

A. Its on the bottom of the air box. by passenger foot you must remove the air duct down there by pulling on the quick release clip that holds it in place once removed you will see the blower resistor with two 5/16 bolts in it, and some wires next to the blower motor.

A. Flyer's dropped off in mail boxes is a good start, make sure you list hours of removal. Also, door to door visits with your flyer's would even be better, gives you a chance to market yourself face to face as you hand them out. I would start this close to when the weather begins changing, most people will not worry about it until then. Good luck.

How do I convert a furnace fan blower into a fan on its own?
Q. I know this can be done...I need to cool attack. I need to know how to connect a plug on the blower set at high speed. No complicated switches, I just want to be able to plug it in and it start blowing! No smarty comments PLEASE.
Asked by chifladachiflada - Thu Jul 24 16:38:27 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's very easy to do but first thing you need to find out is the input voltage on the blower motor. Almost 85% of them is usually 240vac and your standard outlet is 120vac. The motor will have a wireing diagram to let you know if you can do it or not. Once you find out that it is 120vac, you can buy some SO cable from lowes or home depot. You need two conductor with ground. SO cable is the soft flexable cable that is easy to splice and bend. I would connect the wires inside a water proof box that's mounted on the side of the fan housing. You can just make up your connections with butt-splices or wire nuts. Also, you can get a male plug at the same places that are for the same cable. If you can do all of this, then you will need to brace… [cont.]

It is probably held in by 3 or 4 screws and usually the back ones are hardest to get out so if i was you i would get some universal joints that allow you access to tighter screws. email me if you have any more questions

Q. I have a natural gas water heater and i noticed that the blower fan has been running all night. We have absolutely no hot water in the house.

A. Clean the flame sensor. I assume you have an electronic ignition. Turn it off completely. Clean the flame sensor and turn it back on. If there is an electronic ignition module it may have lights flashing. This is usually some form of code. Your owners manual will tell you how to interpret that code and might give you a possible solution.

A. I would recommend finding the manual for your car, as it will provide step by step directions on how to do it. Start by checking your local library, as they often carry a Chilton or Haynes manual for some of the more common vehicles. If they don't have it, you can pick up a Haynes manual at your auto parts store, usually for less than $20. With that said, I would check and see if you can do it through the inside of the car.

What causes an intermittent blower fan problem in a 2001 PT CRUISER?
Q. We had the blower motor replaced, one week later it happened again. The noise is loud like the fan is blowing but no air movement coming out. The repair shop has no clue. It is not rodents, we just had a brand new blower put in and there was no sign of any rodents at all.

A. One of the actuators that directs the air is not working properly. If the shop you have it at can't figure it out, might consider taking it to the dealership repair shop and let them do it. Usually not very much more expensive, if any, than the local independent shops. Plus the added benefit of they know those vehicles in and out and what problems are more common since that's all they work on all day long instead of working on everything under the sun. I've even seen some independent shops that were higher than dealership repair shops.

A. 1. To blow leaves into neater piles to pick up. 2. To blow grass clippings off your sidewalk and driveway. 3. To blow dust out of your garage (hey, it works for me). 4. (Not) to blow leaves into your neighbor's yard. I bought a combination shop vac/leaf blower and I love it.

How exactly do I replace the blower motor?
Q. Okay I think I have to replace the blower motor on my 1992 Honda Accord LX because for a while now I have to tap it to come on and today it started and little by little it began dying out. It wont come on even after I tap it. How should I go about replacing it? Please help thanks.

A. Take it out and do the exact same thing to put one in but in the opposite order is all I can say. Are you tapping on the actual motor under the hood? I would think. Well if you are then you know where it is. It sounds like there was a bad connection though.
