Light is electromagnetic radiation, particularly radiation of a wavelength that is visible to the human eye (about 400–700 nm, or perhaps 380–750 nm.) In physics, the term light sometimes refers to electromagnetic radiation of any wavelength, whether visible or not. Four primary properties of light are: Light, which exists in tiny "packets" called photons, exhibits properties of both waves and particles. This property is referred to as the wave–particle duality. The study of light, known as optics, is an important research area in modern physics. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What would happen if you traveled at light speed while shining a torch in front of you? Q. This is completely hypothetical. I am aware you cannot travel at lightspeed but please read and answer if possible. : ) If you were traveling at light speed, but shined a torch in front of you, would the light simple appear to in front of you but only by a few feet, or would it bend to appear behind you? Also if you could travel slightly faster than the speed of light, would the light even appear to come out of the torch? Cheers! Thus: velocity = distance/time The photons would be traveling at the same velocity as the ship, so they are motionless with respect to the ship as observed by an outside observer. An observer on the ship sees the photon moving at c but since time has stopped, the above is true. Imagine a "photon clock" The person traveling at c is in a transparent space ship exactly 1 light second long. There is a perfect mirror at each end of the ship with a photon bouncing back and forth between the 2 mirrors. Each time the photon hits a mirror the clock ticks one second. Now take the ship to c. The observer can see the photon just as it bounces off the rear mirror. Since the ship and the photon are… [cont.] Answered by OldPilot - Sun Aug 23 16:47:10 2009 What makes light not be able to escape a black hole? Q. I've read over and over again that nothing travels faster than the speed of light. My question is this: if the force of a black hole is so strong that not even light can escape it, then might that mean that whatever "force" in the black hole travels faster than light itself? Forgive me for not fully researching before I ask... I know the answer's probably just a google away, but it's always cool to get opinions from real people. Thanks! Asked by Mel - Thu Oct 4 16:33:40 2007 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments A. the answer is that gravity doesnt really have a speed. its like the earth or anything else with a large mass. everything has escape velocity, you have to be going so fast to escape the gravity of an object. so the gravity of a black hole is so strong not even light can escape it. think of gravity like a trampoline. if you place a bowling ball in the middle it sags, so any thing else on it rolls towards it. and something has to have a certain amount of speed to be able to roll back up the slope thats created by it. so basically a black hole has so much gravity that there isn't even a slope, its like a wall instead of a hill, you can always climb up a hill (the more steep the more effort, same with gravity) but you've gotta be pretty… [cont.] Answered by cbirch92 - Thu Oct 4 18:18:43 2007 How to light up a house without electricity?

Answered by infinione - Thu Aug 13 16:20:49 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "light" Light is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength that is visible to the eye (visible light) or, in a technical or scientific context, the word is sometimes used to mean electromagnetic radiation of all wavelengths. The elementary particle that defines light is the photon. The sensory perception of light plays a central role in Spirituality, and the presence of light as opposed to its absence (darkness) is a common Western metaphor of good and evil, knowledge and ignorance, and similar concepts.
