From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Snowflakes begin as snow crystals which develop when tiny supercooled cloud droplets (about 10 μm in diameter) freeze. Snowflakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Colder environments lead to column-like development of the flakes, while warmer temperatures lead to thin and flat crystal development. Complex shapes emerge as the flake moves through differing temperature and humidity regimes. Types which fall in the form of a ball due to melting and refreezing, rather than a flake, are known as graupel, with ice pellets and snow grains as examples of graupel. I have a 29 gallon salt water tank with a Fire Shrimp, a Clown fish and some hermit crabs and I want to add a small snowflake eel, but I'm not sure if he would try to eat my shrimp or not? I have lots of rockwork for him so I dont think that will be an issue. Basically in order for a snow flake to be large enough for you to see it it has to have billions of atoms in it. These are all arranged based on the lowest energy formation at that the time it was created.
