A. "There will be snow in August before this family is straightened out!" (the cook said it)

Where is the closest place to Atlanta, GA that snows in January?
Q. I really wanna go somewhere in Jan where it snows. I was thinking Gatlinburg but not sure if it snows there all the time. We dont even get snow in Ga very often.

A. No one can guarantee the timing, but it always seems like the first area of Georgia that gets snow is the very northeast corner...Rabun County where Dillard & Clayton are located. If not there, then take a look at Highlands, NC which is straight up the road, and at the top of the mountain that sits right above Dillard...and is several thousand feet higher. I've been snowed on in Highlands...and very heavy, but when I got down the bottom of the mountain in Dillard, not a drop was on the ground! If you take I-85 north and then get on I-985 (it later becomes 441/23...but it's the exact same road), it's around110 miles or so from Marietta where I live..so maybe a little over two hour drive. And, don't miss a chance to eat at the Dillard… [cont.]
