Has anybody been to the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales?
Q. My family and I are thinking of going there for a week. I've got 2 children- usually we just book our airfares and accommodation and we do whatever, can i do this at the Snowy Mountains or is it better to go there on a Holiday Package? Thanks going there first week of June- long weekend holiday

A. It really depends on whether you are planning to go there during ski season which is late June to early October. If so, then a holiday package is much better, because ski passes, lessons, and some meals are usually included in the accommodation package. Flight Centre is a good place to start to get package deals. If you are planning to enjoy the beautiful area outside of this time, then it's probably better to book airfares yourself online through flightcentre.com.au and accommodation through wotif.com.au and find the most suitable and cost-effective deals that way. Out of season prices are very competitive and there are still many attractions and things to entertain the children during this time.

What are the snowy mountains in South Island that can be seen from Owhiro Bay in Wellington?
Q. I was driving around Owhiro Bay (Wellington) this morning when it was very sunny. I saw in two snowy mountains across the sea. So I assume they are in South Island but I dont know which ones. Is it Mount Cook something?? How come we can see it from so far away :)

A. You are too far away to see Mt Cook. What you see are the Kaikoura mountains. There's the Inland Kaikouras and the Seaward Kaikouras. The highest peak (and it's visible from Wellington) is Tapeanuku. The photo on this page shows it well. More information is available by doing a google search of Tapeanuku.

What is a good glove for bicycling in snowy winter weather?
Q. My boyfriend rides his bike to/from work and has a hard time keeping his hands warm when there's windchill and the temperature drops to the 20's. I'm looking for input for a glove that is warm, windproof and waterproof that people are REALLY happy with and not just what the manufacturer claims. Any suggestions anyone?
